The Bliss Cart

posted Jul 21, 2010, 3:07 PM by beth.stegall@nextsteprecycling.org   [ updated Jul 22, 2010, 10:54 AM by Unknown user ]

Coconut Bliss started when a simple hand-cranked ice cream maker was purchased from Goodwill. In that ice cream maker Luna and Larryʼs Coconut Bliss frozen dessert was born.

Luna Marcus and Larry Kaplowitz, creators and owners of Coconut Bliss, met in 2002 at the Lost Valley Educational Center, a land based non-profit in Dexter, Oregon. Living among individuals who were dedicated to sustainable lifestyle practices, Luna and Larry found an inspiring social environment in which to create their innovative and unique dessert.

After giving up dairy for health and ethical reasons, Luna and Larry were finding themselves unsatisfied with soy- and rice- based ice cream alternatives. The available non-dairy ice creams didnʼt taste good, made them feel sick after eating them, or were made with so many ingredients the dessert didnʼt even
sound like food.

With that,Luna began to ponder why there wasnʼt a non-dairy ice cream being commercially manufactured that used coconut milk as a base. Luna had used coconut milk in a lot of Thai cooking and it seemed an ideal base for a nondairy ice cream.

Late 2004, Luna & Larry finally came up with the
perfect recipe, free of dairy, gluten and soy and sweetened only with agave syrup. The companyʼs name “Luna & Larryʼs Coconut Bliss” was established shortly thereafter. Luna & Larryʼs Coconut Bliss is committed to serving the finest coconut-milk based ice cream product on the market, a driving principle that Luna and Larry instilled in the company since the first pint was created. Coconut Bliss has made the promise that all products they offer are made with the highest quality organic and fair-trade ingredients possible.

Come to the ReArt Festival on August 8th to enjoy the incredible flavors of The Bliss Cart!
